Reading Tutoring Vancouver Washington
The Vancouver Reading Tutoring Program focuses on phonics, sight vocabulary, functional vocabulary, comprehension, and oral reading. Our trained reading tutor will present a wide variety of lessons in order to cater to the individual learning style of each student and provide excellent reading assistance.
Phonics - Phonics skills taught in our reading tutoring are fundamentally imperative to reading as they enable students to correctly sound out unfamiliar words. Children will learn phonics skills such as letter recognition, letter formation, consonant sounds, blends and digraphs, short and long vowels, R & L modified vowels, variant and irregular vowels, compound words, syllabication, and roots and affixes. Students will gradually gain the confidence to move ahead with more complex materials as they master these reading skills in our tutoring program.
Sight Vocabulary - Sight words are words that children should recognize instantly by the end of third grade. Mastering sight words provides aid in fluency and accuracy in oral and silent reading.
Functional Vocabulary - Students earn the capability to recognize word meanings by learning reading skills in relation to the use of antonyms, synonyms, affixes, words with multiple meanings, and approrpriate word choices in the context of sentences, phrases and paragraphs.
Comprehension - Designed to assist students in learning how to derive meaning from what they are reading. There are four specific areas that are emphasized: organization, information, generalization and inference. When the four skills are applied at once, your childs comprehension of written materials used in school is drastically improve.
Oral Reading - This program requests that students read orally on a regular basis. Tutors provide reading help which affirms accuracy, fluency and self confidence in reading skills through repetition and practice.
